For many Alpha Phis, today is just a normal Tuesday. But for our sister Shelby Rowan, it is much more than a normal Tuesday. The Rowan family is currently en route to Omaha for Carlee's open heart surgery tomorrow. Carlee is three, almost four, years old and has Down Syndrome. She needs to have open heart surgery because she has an atrioventricular septal defect, which is common for people with Down Syndrome (she has two holes in her heart and a leaky valve).
Alpha Phi's philanthropy supports heart health, so this is very near and dear to our hearts. Knowing that our philanthropy can help little girls like Carlee and the Rowan family is something that makes what we do that much more amazing and inspiring.
Carlee holds a special place in our heart. We are sending lots of love and prayers to the Rowan family today and in the coming days. We love you all!
