 Interested in being involved at the University of Nebraska - Kearney? Hear from our president, Kristin Bell, as she talks about her experience as a leader on campus! "Hello everyone! My name is Kristin Bell from Aurora, Nebraska, and I will be entering my senior year at UNK majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. The past three years at UNK have been some of the best times of my life. Each organization has lead me to experience new opportunities and network with unique individuals to further my education as well as my personal skills. One of my favorite leadership roles has been as a Student Diplomat, where I give tours to perspective students and their families. As I'm starting my fifth semester giving tours, my favorite part is talking about all the amazing opportunities I took advantage of on campus. I am also involved in the Honors Program, Loper Leaders, Chancellor's Ambassadors, the Beta Alpha Psi Accounting society, the Panhellenic Council as a recruitment counselor (Pi Chi) for formal recruitment last year, and other various honor societies, just to name a few. My biggest piece of advice to any incoming freshman or anyone at UNK is to get involved. It is an amazing chance to network with individuals that could potentially lead you to a job later on in life, meet your best friends, find a bomb intramural volleyball team, or even just help further your knowledge in different areas of life. My favorite activity and leadership position I have is being the president of Alpha Phi. From having zero clue what a sorority was when I came to campus to now going to conventions in Arizona and networking with women from all over the country to take away knowledge to bring back to my organization, I am truly amazed. Alpha Phi has over 30 different leadership opportunities for the women in our chapter to run for that make my job a lot easier. So, in my opinion, being president is one of the things I am most proud of. Being the leader of my chapter does deal with some challenging tasks, but the rewards and outtakes outweigh those challenges immensely. I have women walking into my room any day of the week just to chat, women who come to me for advice, women who have the most creative ideas to implement, and women who make my college experience fuller by the loyalty and character I learn from them. Each day of my leadership role, I learn something new to make myself a better person, not just a leader. If you haven't noticed, Alpha Phi has changed my entire UNK college experience. I was able to join an organization that values scholarship, sisterhood, service, loyalty, leadership, and character development. An organization that had women who pushed me to apply to become a student diplomat. An organization that allowed me to stay on campus my sophomore year with the women in my chapter and become even more involved than I could have ever imagined. An organization that supported me in my lows and lead me to my highs. I will be forever grateful to Alpha Phi and this specific chapter of women for shaping my life into what it is at this moment.
